My approach to treatment is to thoroughly understand a person’s presenting problems and develop a good working relationship. Then establish a treatment plan in concert with the patient, to remediate and heal the presenting concerns.
This approach is particularly applicable to my sub-specialty of Clinical Health Psychology. People diagnosed with a medical illness( such as epilepsy, non-epileptic seizures, diabetes, cancer, etc) often have related psychological challenges such as anxiety and depression, among others. Persons with chronic or acute illness increase their ability to adhere to medical treatment regimen when psychological and/or emotional challenges are treated concurrently with medical treatment.
